Want to know where the best vegan desserts are in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica? I have you covered. I visited over 30+ restaurants and cafes in Santa Teresa over two months and discovered the best vegan desserts that Santa Teresa has to offer.
Eat Street
1. Chocolate Cake
Delicious and creamy, Eat Streets chocolate cake was my favorite dessert on their menu.
2. Chocolate Chip Cookie
A classic chocolate chip cookie can be the perfect treat or a total dud. Eat Street’s chocolate chip cookie was the former, soft, chocolatey, and a great pair with a cafe latte. It is also a cheaper dessert option for those on a budget and/or if you are only looking for a small delight.
3. Chocolate Brownie with vanilla ice cream
Eat Streets vegan chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream was one of the more extravagant desserts I tried in Santa Teresa. Although the ice cream was a little simple, the brownie was quite good. The addition of fruit on top was a nice touch and added a bit of tartness to an otherwise sweet dish.
4. Chocolate Chip Banana Muffin
Moist and soft, the Chocolate Chip Banana Muffin at Eat Street is excellent as a dessert or as an afternoon snack. Best with tea or coffee, the chocolate melts in your mouth, and the banana flavor dances on your tongue.
L’arte del Gelato
5. Strawberry and Chocolate Ice cream in a cone
There are a few ice cream shops in Santa Teresa, but L’arte del Gelato beats them all. In this small, quaint shop you will find a variety of vegan ice cream options. My favorites were strawberry and chocolate. Often I find vegan strawberry sorbet to be too icy, but L’arte del Gelato’s was creamy and packed with flavour. The chocolate was an appropriate match to the strawberry. A rich, creamy cocoa, with the perfect level of sweetness.
Mafra’s Panaderia
6. Chocolate Muffin
Although a muffin may not be considered a dessert, Mafra’s Panaderia’s chocolate muffin is far too sweet. Topped with creamy icing, their muffin is 100% chocolate throughout. It even surprised me with a chunk or two of chocolate inside. For those who don’t need an entire piece of chocolate cake, this will do just fine.
Drift
7. Blueberry Almond Tarte
For a vegan tarte, I was quite shocked! The blueberry almond tarte at Drift’s crust tasted just like shortbread but without the butter. I am a fan of blueberries, so I quite enjoyed the fresh additions. Overall the dessert was quite good, and as someone who usually goes for chocolate, I found this dish surprisingly good.
The Bakery
8. Coconut Chocolate Bar
Simple, but a classic nonetheless. The Bakeries coconut chocolate bar tastes like a healthy, but more decadent version of a bounty bar. 3 distinct layers of nuts, then coconut, and a rich dark chocolate combine. One of The Bakery’s only desserts, the coconut chocolate bar is an acceptable alternative, if you are willing to pay the hefty price tag.
The Roastery
9. Cinnamon Strudel
Technically not a strudel, but delicious nonetheless. Gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, and delicious, who would have guessed?
10. Banana Bread
Loved it! The Roastery has a few vegan loaves to choose from, but their banana bread is a classic. Moist, soft, and not too sweet, their banana bread can be eaten as a snack or a dessert. Perfect paired with their soy iced chai latte, I ordered their banana bread more than once. In part due to their affordable pricing and delicious lattes.
Katana
11. Chocolate Mousse
By far my favorite dessert in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Rich, creamy, and not too sweet, this vegan chocolate mousse was perfect. The tarte fruit paired wonderfully with the chocolate mousse, which was surprisingly not too sweet. Exceptionally creamy and filling, this dessert was the most expensive out of all the desserts I had in Santa Teresa, but it was worth the price.
La Esquinita Coffee & Deli
12. Banana Bread
A classic banana bread, with a chocolate glaze. La Esquinita Coffee & Deli serves a great breakfast and has a few delectable vegan dessert options. Soft, moist, and delicious, their banana bread is great paired with their classic latte.
