History

Santa Teresa, located in the Puntarenas Province, is a small town off the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Warm sand beaches, wicked waves, and a vibrant surf culture have made this town blossom into an international vacation hot spot. From celebrities to lavish travelers, people from around the world clammer to get a piece of this beach escape. Yet, not long ago this piece of paradise was humble farm land. Once owned by a single farm family, with no heirs in sight, the land was eventually distributed by the government to local farmhands. As time went on, in 1996, Santa Teresa obtained electricity and development soon followed. Today, an abundance of resorts, restaurants, cafes, and tour offices fill this small town. Allowing visitors to explore the natural wonders of Costa Rica, and take in the breathtaking sunsets on Santa Teresa Beach.

What is the weather like in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica?

The temperature in Santa Teresa ranges on average from 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F). During the rainy season, from May to November, rain showers are common in the mid-afternoon to late evening. While in the dry season, from late November to May, you can expect higher temperatures ranging from 31°C to 35°C (87°F to 94°F). 


How To Get to Santa Teresa, Costa Rica?

Air + Taxi 

Typically, international travelers will fly into Cobano (ACO) Airport located in Playa Santa Teresa. This airport is located 9.6 km or a 20-minute drive from the town of Santa Teresa. Uber and other mobile car services are not available in Santa Teresa. Local taxi drivers can be booked in advance and are your best option.

San Jose + Bus + Ferry + Taxi/Car/Shuttle

Upon landing at San Jose Airport, head past the taxi drivers and exit the airport. You will find a small local bus stop just outside the parkade. Many buses pass by this area, so confirm with the bus driver which bus terminal it stops at. The cost for a local city bus is typically $1 USD. 

You can book a bus in person at Bus Terminal Tracopa. Review their website for pricing & pick-up/drop-off locations. 

You will also find buses leaving from Bus Terminal 7-10 to Puntarenas ferry terminal, this is the most popular option. 

Once in Puntarenas, catch the ferry to Paquera. You can find schedules and pricing on the ferry website here.


When you arrive in Paquera, you have the option of booking a taxi (1.25 hours), shuttle (2 hours), or car rental (1.25 hours). Book ahead to avoid delays. You can book a shared shuttle service online, starting at $50 per person here.
